Hey folks!
Tired of all this Critical Madness? Let's chat about SeaCompression! First off, let it be known that we've reserved a date: November 8th at Sand Point Hangar 30. Same time and place as the last two years. Mmm, consistency.
Now, let's talk about all-ages. This is a big, divisive issue we run into every year. Last year, we talked very seriously about converting SeaCompression to a street fair, like Artopia (was, the Georgetown Street Fair). But, everyone I've talked to agrees: this was the year that SeaCompression really hit its stride. We've hit on a formula that works, and to tear it down in its prime would be disastrous.
But we're still committed to some kind of all-ages event that lets our whole community come out to play, so we looked at options. We could invest in creating a brand new spring event... orrrr, we could hitch our wagon to the stars of an existing event. Which brings us back to Georgetown.
Artopia is an all-day, all-ages, outdoor event in support of local artists. Last year's edition included such attractions as Hazard Factory's Power Tool Drag Racing, the Flight 2 Mars Birthday Cake, a child friendly carnival midway, live music, and some funky gallery shows. Sounds familiar, don't it?
Artopia '08 lands on Saturday, June 28th, and Ignition Northwest has decided to get behind it all the way. Thumbnail sketch: we're going to take over one "zone" of the fair with our own stage, theme camps, and art. And we're putting our money where our mouth is, with grants for artists and theme camps. Now, we need YOU.
The first step to getting involved is to join the conversation. Make sure you're on SEAVENT, our public event planning list.
To join, send mail to: seavent-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
See you in Georgetown!
